the 'pumpkin' is cast iron and you'll have trouble welding properly to it and you run the risk of it cracking.

I've been advised to weld the plates along the axle tubes and shape the plates to reach to the bolt holes via a spacer on the diff cover and run the bottom bolts through the plate, through a spacer (so you can remove the diff cover) through the diff cover so its all tied in together.

Haven't drawn up a design for mine yet, the text above sounds really complicated, i'll knock something up and we can see if we can make it work...

good luck! i pulled the rear end out of mine to do it, and redo the power balls, slean it up and paint it. <---- im just now cleaning it up for paint. not so bad.

i will never pull a rear end again *without* air tools though, i threw my fuxin back out again.

Pull it out, it's worth the pain and you can clean that shit up from any angle when you're done or before starting the reinforcement. ;)

u just did one and welded to the pumpkin which was cast, The trick to doing it is heat the cast up to 400 degrees and start your welds, not welding but one about 4 inches at a time , then re-heat it bask to 400 and ping it with a ball ping hammer. after it coold down do the same think to the next section you will weld., just the way I do it
